To the men in the audience: so what makes a good dancer? Alcohol? Salsa classes? Being related to John Travolta?

It can be awkward finding yourself on the dance floor and trying to figure out what's the appropriate etiquette for the occasion. Should you play it safe and stick to a few conservative moves that won't raise any eyebrows? Or should you let the music sink deeply into your bones and break out with the "Shake N Bake" and the "Water Sprinkler"?

...The majority of men displayed highly repetitive moves that used their arms and legs, but not the rest of their bodies.

"It's rare that someone is described as a good dancer if they are flinging their arms about but not much else," said Nick Neave, a psychologist at the University of Northumbria, who led the study.

Neave's team of psychologists videotaped 19 men between 18 and 35 and asked them to unleash their killer dance moves to a drum beat for 30 seconds. Using infra-red detectors attached to their clothes, the group captured their movements and created video sequences of 3-D models that were shown to 38 women, who ranked the dancers' moves in a scale from 1 to 7.

What really surprised me was the good dancer in the video clip whipping out all the crazy moves from just listening to 30 seconds of a "simple drum beat," according the Guardian. That guy must have had a real pent up urge to party.
